Most of us have had experiences that left us victimised and bitter. We may have had our heart broken, experienced loss or we may have even experienced deceit and abuse. And as a result, most of us have become somewhat resentful even if we do not think about our negative experiences every day. This half-conscious resentment is a major block to happiness and the best way to overcome it is to find something to be grateful for in all our difficult experiences. I myself had my share of extremely hurtful experiences and I can say for sure that only through this suffering have I become a much more compassionate person who is able to help others. And that is something I am deeply grateful for. Our tragic experiences are like the grit in the oyster that produces a beautiful pearl if we can learn to be grateful for their lessons.
