Is it OK for us believers to drink socially, or is it a sin? This depends on who you are in talks with. In my 20s actually stopped drinking socially for several years, as I wanted to represent Christ the best way I could. My friends who many were on the border of belief accepted it, most without judgment. My inner circle and the care group I went to also abstained, but we never criticized others for having a glass of wine with dinner, or even two.

Well, there would be a “look” sometimes of disapproval. I had to make the call for myself, and not what others were doing. So, go to the book. The Bible does not forbid that you can’t drink alcohol, but to abstain from getting drunk.

Drinking itself is not a sin-- it’s the temptation and follow through on getting sloshed after a bad day or for the fun of it. Let’s be honest, most of us have been drunk, which causes many regrets, sins, in addition to conviction.

In Ephesians 5:18 the Word says “do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit.” God also told us it was a blessing to drink wine from your own vineyard, as it was a sign of blessings. Also, “drink your wine with a merry heart,” (Ecclesiastes 9:7).

If you can handle drinking in moderation, I don’t think it’s a sin, but it’s important to accept limits as alcohol can take rule easily. So to avoid, the temptation, it might be better to avoid these situations for some. But if you have self-control there is no reason not to enjoy a drink at home or even socially. Ask God to guide you and pray about  it if you are unsure.
