Superman

Superman is one of the oldest films on our list and easily one of the best. The special effects may be outdated but the perfect telling of the lore of Superman won't ever be.

The Incredibles

The Incredibles are a crime fighting superhero family. This computer animated feature helped put Pixar on the map and it's still one of their best films.

Spiderman 2

The first Spiderman movie introduced Tobey McGuire as a believable Spiderman and retold the heroes' origin story in fine style. The second movie is where the franchise really shined. It has more action, a more interesting story, and an even better villain. What could be better?

Batman

While the newer Batman films have certainly made their mark on movie history, the second is still one of the best superhero movies. It's hard to imagine Michael Keaton as Batman these days, but he does an excellent job here.

X-Men

The X-Men have been a comic fan favorite for years, but it took them until the 2000s to end up on the big screen. Fortunately, the movie is a great take on the mutated heroes with a memorable cast and fantastic writing.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

I am a bit of a T.M.N.T. fanboy, so I may be biased, but this superhero movie rocks my face every time! The movie did a perfect job of translating the cartoon into a live action movie, so it may be cheesy but it's still a great ride!

The Avengers

The movies leading up to The Avengers ranged from great to okay, including the nearly-on-this-list Iron Man, but The Avengers topped them all. Joss Wheadon, creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, brings his narrative charm to these superheros and manages to tie in all of the lead-up movies with great flare.

The Dark Knight

Fear, death, redemption, loss, these dark and important topics are rarely explored with success in superhero movies. Christopher Nolan's second Batman film did just that, and with more action than you can throw a batarang at. This is not only one of the best superhero movies - it may be THE best. It can be difficult at times, but it is well worth the investment.
