In an essay called "God on the Gridiron" in Feed Magazine, writer Jason Sokol relates how Isaac Bruce, wide receiver for the Super Bowl Champion St. Louis Rams, claimed that linebacker Derrick Thomas and golfer Payne Stewart could have survived their fatal car and plane crashes if they had called on the Lord.
Bruce, known as "Rev. Ike" on a team heavily populated by evangelical Christians, once walked away unscathed from a car wreck.
"Are you saying if Payne Stewart (also a Christian) had invoked the name of Jesus Christ, he'd be alive today?" Bruce was asked.
