Soviet political prisoner and Nobel Prize laureate Solzhenitsyn is well-known for "Cancer Ward" and "A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich," but his triumph was the three-volume "Gulag Archipelago"(published in France in 1974), in which he draws the reader into the Soviet labor camps. Shot through many of Sozhenitsyn's works (but especially "A Day in the Life") is the question of what it means to suffer for Christ.
