Reba McEntire is one of the world’s best country singers. She is also a devote Christian.  She recently came out with the song, “Back to God”. It is a song about how we all need to turn our eyes and our lives back towards Him and pray that this entire nation turns back to Him. He is the only one who can help us. She wrote it after many of the devastating events that have occurred recently in our world, such as the ongoing drug epidemic, suicides, terrorist acts, hurricanes and floods, as well as the mass shooting in Las Vegas Nevada. She wants this nation to turn back towards God and to become the nation that believes in the words, in God we trust”, again.  We should all take a good look at ourselves in the mirror and figure out how we can be that change and help turn this nation back to the Lord. The lyrics are as follows:
First verse: Oh, have you looked around. Have you heard the sound of Mama’s cryin’? Or do you turn away. When you see the face. Of the innocent dyin’. In these darkest days. Are you not afraid. That it’s too late. You gotta get down on your knees, believe. Fold your hands and beg and plead. Gotta keep on praying. You gotta cry, rain tears of pain. Pound the floor and scream His name. ‘Cause we’re still worth saving. Can’t go on like this and live like this. We can’t love like this. We gotta give this world back to God.
These lyrics really hit home for all of us. We’ve all looked around and heard the sound of people crying and seen the innocent get killed for not good reason. We ask God why these things happen and many times we don’t end up getting the answer we want. In these dark times how can we not be afraid of even stepping outside our homes for the fear that might grip us, what if we are next to go? Do we turn deaf ears and blind eyes to the ones who need our help the most or do we get down on our knees and truly believe that we are receiving the prayers that we pray each night? We often beg God to turn towards us and help us through our toughest days. It gets even harder when we can’t hear Him or see Him. It makes it even harder when we choose to not listen to Him and not to do what He’s asking of us.
Don’t be ashamed or afraid to get down on your knees and believe that what you are praying for, you will receive. You can fold your hands and beg Him and plead with Him to save you and the ones you love as well as this world, because we all know this world is worth saving. You are completely allowed to cry and rain tears of pain, be angry enough to pound the floor and scream His name. We can’t go on in this world without Him. That is the ultimate truth and harsh reality, that we are nothing without God. We as a nation have turned our backs on Him and have taken Him out of every aspect of our lives. We are now suffering the drastic consequences of those choices. We have only one answer: we have to give our lives and our world back to God. He is the only reason why this nation is even still standing.
Second verse: Have you lost a love? Do you feel like givin’ up? Has your heart been broken? Are your kids okay? Will they come home safe? Do you lie there hoping? You can make a wish, you can knock on wood. Oh, it won’t do no good. Chorus: You gotta get down on your knees, believe. Fold your hands and beg and plead. Gotta keep on praying. You gotta cry, rain tears of pain. Pound the floor and scream His name. ‘Cause we’re still worth saving. Can’t go on like this and live like this. We can’t love like this. We gotta give this world back to God. You gotta get down on your knees, believe. Fold your hands and beg and plead. Keep on praying. You gotta cry, rain tears of pain. Pound the floor and scream His name. ‘Cause we’re still worth saving. Can’t go on like this and live like this. We can’t love like this. You can hope the best. Make a wish. The only answer is: we give this world back to God. Oh, give it back.
The second verse of the song asks the uncomfortable, not to mention scary questions of whether we have given up, lost a love and whether our kids will even be okay and make it home safe at night. Do we lie there hoping and praying that the people we love are okay in this world and that nothing happens to them. Would we even have the chance to tell them that we love them one more time or to put our arms around them and ask for their forgiveness? It could also stem from the fact that this world also has a horrid drug epidemic and there isn’t enough being done to stop it.  It goes on to say that we can make wishes, hope the best, and none of that will do any good unless, we pray for our friends and family members’ protection. That God protects them with His mighty power, grace and love. We need to start praying for ourselves to be the change that this world needs in order to turn this world towards our Savior once again. It is the only way and it starts with you. One person at a time can make all the difference in the world. With everything that has been happening lately, going back to the foundation of faith is the only way to make this world a better and safer place for everyone.
