Calvin’s Commentary:I did not realize the interest had reached national levels on this story; otherwise, I would have been posting items about this on Watchwoman. This is all happening in my neck of the woods and nightly we hear on the news constant reports and the same pictures being shown over and over and over and over!!! Because I am so sick of hearing the story, I didn’t think anyone else could possibly be interested. So much for the lamestream local media. Alas, I was wrong – out there in TV-Land-USA everyone is interested! Believe me, if you lived here, you’d be as fed up with Sam Mullet’s Amish barber shop as I am! I have other comments under Sam Mullet’s picture that you might find interesting, plus some questions to ponder. ▬Donna Calvin ▬ Thursday, September 20, 2012

Amish defendants

Amish Beard Cutting Ring Leader – Sam Mullet – This guy convinced Amish women married to other Amish men in his “church” (community) to have sex with him. A real nice guy, aye? How come it seems all these crazy whacked out nut cases of cults seem to be able to convince all kinds of women to have sex with him and their husbands don’t kill the creep?  Just asking?  Where’s the competitive spirit of males?  Just asking? My real question is, why isn’t this creep on trial for rape? Just asking? I mean what’s worse, getting your hair cut or getting raped by intimidation? Maybe we need to reinstate the old laws about alienation of affections too?  Just pondering. I think if this were happening in a cult my husband and me might have attended unknowingly, Mr. Mullet would be minus, not his beard hair, but his … never mind! That’s too nasty.

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

After a week of deliberating, the jury has reached a verdict in the Amish beard bandits trial.

16 members of a break-away Amish group faced federal hate crime charges for a series of hair-cutting attacks on other members of the Amish community. The attacks happened in Jefferson, Trumbull, Holmes and Carroll Counties.

Prosecutors say Sam Mullet ordered the violent hair cuts. The attacks were meant to humiliate and punish the people Mullet did not believe are faithful enough.

In doing so, the defendants forcibly restrained multiple Amish men and cut off their beards and head hair with scissors and battery-powered clippers, causing bodily injury to these men while also injuring others who attempted to stop the attacks.  In the Amish religion, a man’s beard is considered sacred.

Mullet faces 20 years in jail.
