Watchwoman: Does the Bible support the death penalty and capital punishment?  Yes, the Bible supports the execution of murderers and a few other crimes.  God was the first to set up the death penalty. After the worldwide Flood of Noah’s time, God put safeguards in place against human violence. Of prime importance was the death penalty: “Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man” (Genesis 9:6).  If a human or an animal killed a human, the killer was to be put to death (Genesis 9:5). This was because of the sacredness of human life. God created humans in His image, so murdering another human meant you would forfeit your own life.  God has never revoked the death penalty. Jesus said He did not come to destroy the law, but to fulfill it (Matthew 5:17). And the Apostle Paul preached about the government’s right to invoke capital punishment on evildoers (Romans 13:1-5).  [Source: http://www.creationtips.com/death_penalty.html ]

BREAKING NEWS! Mexican national and convicted murderer Humberto Leal Garcia Jr. has been executed by lethal injection in Texas.
The Obama administration and international leaders had asked for a reprieve on behalf of the inmate.
What makes Leal’s conviction unusual is that he was not informed about his right to contact the Mexican consulate upon his arrest — a right guaranteed under a binding international treaty.
Leal, 38, was convicted of raping Adria Sauceda, a 16-year-old girl in San Antonio, and then strangling and bludgeoning her.
According to a Texas official, Leal’s final words included: “I am sorry for everything I have done.”

Watchwoman…I certainly hope that Leal’s final words included true and complete repentance in his heart and soul, that he learned of Jesus Christ and His Shed Blood to cover any and all sins any human being has ever committed, and that Leal accepted the payment that Jesus Christ paid for Leal’s sins and that Leal is in heaven for all eternity.  I hope the same thing for you, whomever is reading this right now.  I pray in the Name of Jesus to God the Father to send the Holy Spirit to woo you into complete acceptance of Jesus Christ, first as Savior, then as Master — and that you repent (turn completely around and change from your sinful desires) and be truly sorry for you sins and to try your utmost to stop sinning, but when you do, remember you have an Advocate Jesus Christ, pleading before the Father in Heaven on your behalf.  You will never be alone fighting sin again.  Jesus will be there helping you overcome all temptation.  In Jesus Christ name, I pray, for you, the reader of this post.  Amen.   ▬ Donna Calvin
