Last night, Katie and I went to an “Information Night” road show type presentation about Notre Dame. Yes, she’s two years away from college apps and no, ND is not a place she is particularly interested in attending, but I figured it would be good for her to hear a presentation from a selective college like ND, so she has a more realistic sense of what she needs to be thinking about for college in general, or, if she chooses a more selective place.
I really don’t have anything fascinating to report – the video was standard college recruitment stuff, the young guy from the Admissions Office was very good, knew his stuff, advised students that writing their personal essay on the application about Rudy was not a good idea, even though hundreds every year apparently still think it is.

The interesting thing I learned was that Notre Dame only gives need-based financial aid – no merit-based scholarships at all. Of course, one can get merit-based scholarships from outside the university, but I thought it was interesting that from within, it’s only need.
And at $46,000 a year – that’s a whole lot of need, yes?
