Lots of good comments in the post below this – interesting things seem to be happening around the Catholic world. I was particularly struck by this, so I’m highlighting it:

All things Christ and Philly…

This week, the ever wise Philadelphia City Council declared Philadelphia a "pro-choice city".

Cardinal Rigali quickly answered with this (video version) (print version):

Our parish pro-life committee answered the city council by putting up white crosses on Saturday in front of Church, each one representing one million children killed by direct abortion since 1973.

This morning, they were all gone. Stolen.

Our new pastor, Fr. Mulligan, answered with a brilliant homily, tying together Jesus’ ability to feed the multitudes, with our opportunity to enter more fully into life with Christ in the Eucharist and to realize in a profound way that it is the Real Presence, to a call to evangelize our very blue/liberal neighborhood and to evangelize the theifs who stole the crosses.

It was almost quite literally breathtaking.

I was in tears. Tears of sadness over the affront to human dignity that goes on here in Philly day in and day out; and tears of hope that God can use these events to bring his lost sheep home.
