Yes, the zoo was a zoo. We visit zoos frequently on our travels, because as I said, we have a membership at our local zoo that gets us free admission at most other zoos, and half price at some of the big ones that are too cheap to let us in for free. It’s very satisfying to flash a card and say, "Hey, that’s 25 bucks I don’t have to pay!"

The Columbia Zoo is on a riverbank – in fact, it’s called Riverbanks Zoo – but you really don’t see the riverbanks from the zoo part. It was okay – since it was afternoon, most of the animals were sleepy. It wasn’t on par with Louisville or Toledo – two of my favorites – but there were koalas, giraffes, elephants and tigers – all greatly appreciate by Joseph, even though as soon as he had seen one on his list, he was immediately ready to go to the next one, the exception being the sea lions – which at home, for some reason, he is only mildly interested in. Go figure. I guess South Carolina sea lions are better than Indiana sea lions, although neither of them have a rights in the sea lion competition at all, if you think about it.
