Fr. Jim, who actually ministers in the Diocese of Arlington, comments on the news out of there today: The bishop allowing celebration of the 1962 Mass, and allowing altar girls:

I can’t recall having been so happy at hearing a diocesan announcement. At a priest gathering today, Arlington’s Bishop Paul Loverde announced two rather big changes for our diocese, ample documentation regarding which you can read here. The traditional Roman Mass will be permitted every Sunday at two parishes in different regions of the diocese. Up until now, the Bishops of Arlington had not permitted the Old Rite. The second announcement was a permission for pastors to allow female altar servers if, after consultation with their clergy and laity, they thought it worthwhile for their parishes.

Do go read Fr. Jim’s explanation of the different roles of the server at the altar in the Tridentine and Novus Ordo rites. Very instructive. As per usual.
