To St. Vincent de Paul in Houston: (from the comments)

I spoke with a woman at the Houston St. Vincent de Paul this morning, and she said its indeed okay to ship needed items in to them. She said as of now the items they need most are paper products (toilet paper, etc., which is running out fast), personal hygiene items, hand sanitizer (pump container like soap but you dont wash it off), and Pedialyte. She said they have enough food for now but they’re "hoping it will continue to last". Their website (at http://www.svdphouston.org/Hurricane%20Katrina%20List%20of%20Needed%20Items.pdf ) also has an excellent list of other needed items – these are just ones she highlighted to me on the phone.

The address is:

St. Vincent de Paul Society
2403 Holcombe Blvd.
Houston TX 77021

A news report this morning also says that most of the people coming in to Houston have no shoes – so this might also be a good item to donate?

Feel so helpless here… but sending items to help the SVDP help those in need is one small thing we can do. I’ll also be passing this info and address along to our parish and school so that word can spread – others might want to pass it along in their communities as well.

ALSO: From the SVDP in Baton Rouge:

Just called the St. VDP Society in Baton Rouge to confirm that they
would be able to receive the goods listed yesterday on your site. They confirmed
that they could and that the need is very real. They did say, however, that
goods need to be shipped to their warehouse where they can be sorted. The
correct address is:

1010 Nicholson Dr. Baton Rouge, LA 70802.

It would be good if you could post the correct address, so the shelter doesn’t get
overwhelmed.
