I swear, my oldest son continues to surprise. He gets so bent out of shape about things, I’m thinking that he has a future on cable tv news. Today he bent my ear for several minutes about this show on VH1 about celebrities and religion, which he insisted that I watch – I think it was on tonight again and I missed it. Anyway, he was quite perturbed by the hypocrisy, the dilution of traditional religions, eastern and western, by celebrity culture, by the drive to adapt religion to assuage one’s uneasiness with one’s lifestyle instead of changing said lifestyle. I am telling you, I am fascinated by this young man and can’t imagine where he’ll ultimately end up in life – I suspect I might be surprised.

He mentioned that he was reading Catch-22, and I allowed as how I’d seen Heller when he came to speak at UT back when I was a student. "Really?" Christopher said. "Do you know who comes and speaks here now? People from The Real World and the Ultimate Warrior." (the latter being a former pro wrestler.) What did the Ultimate Warrior talk about? Oh, politics and stuff. Yeah. Politics.

You think we’re kidding?

We’re not.
