How could I forget..

posted by awelborn

As I was tapping out the book signing post last night, something was nagging at me. What had I forgotten?

Ah yes…from the "It’s a Small, Small, Small SMALL Catholic World" Department:

After getting various children settled, I came over to the book table to find Michael chatting with someone. The guy said, "Hi, Amy" and I thought, Vaguely familiar, but….. And then Michael said, "Amy, you remember Pat Madrid.."

Weird, eh? Pat Madrid and (some of his sizeable) family and sans moustache (which is why I didn’t recognize him) in town from Ohio for a wedding, had gone to the noon Mass at the Basilica-Shrine, the same Mass we, in from Indiana, had attended.

Where is that in the Bible, I wonder?

Cluelessness. Pure cluelessness. I was at the noon Mass at the Shrine, and never, ever put together that with your announcements about the book-signing at the Shrine. Doh! I wonder how many other bloggers were at the Mass. It had the potential for being a blogger’s Mass.
The organist was a bit..energetic..on Sunday, don’t you think?

I was at that Mass at well. I have to admit we made it a bit late, actually more than a bit late. I hate that when that happens. The homily seemed to wander a bit at the beginning but then settled into keeping our eyes on Jesus.
Also, I was wondering if Newt Gingrich would show up at the book signing. His wife sings in the choir.

I think it’s John 3:17.
Oh wait, that says, “When the Yankees lose, we all win.”

You’re thinking Gen 1 (or is it 3?), “And on the eighth day God created the Yankees”.
I met Pat Madrid at an apologetics couse in Columbus. Kind, gracious man, with a lovely (and sizeable) family there to pitch in.

Actually, in Genesis, Eve is told that because of the Fall the Giants will blow game 6 of the 1982 World Series and never, ever come that close again…………

There is nothing I shall want
A couple of weeks ago, a memorial Mass for Michael was held here in Birmingham at the Cathedral. The bishop presided and offered a very nice, even charming homily in which he first focused on the Scripture readings of the day, and then turned to Michael, whom he remembered, among other things, as on

Revolutionary Road - Is it just me?
Why am I the only person I know..or even "know" in the Internet sense of "knowing"  - who didn't hate it? I didn't love it, either. There was a lot wrong with it. Weak characterization. Miscasting. Anvil-wielding mentally ill prophets. But here's the thing.Whether or not Yates' original novel in

I don't know about you, but one of effects of childbirth on me was a compulsion to spill the details.
