Down in the comments box and in my email box, there’s a tiny bit of grumbling about the Catholics dumping on Joel Osteen. Well, what we’ve said here is nothing compared to what some of his fellow Protestants have said. Some links for you, most of which include more links to more critiques:

The Internet Monk here and here

From "Apprising Ministries" – which takes a dim view of Purpose-Driven Life, emergent church stuff, too.

This minister who’s hostile to most televangelists, too.

A lengthy critique and an informative discussion.

What we call "evangelicalism" is actually quite diverse, an umbrella term that covers, inadequately, beliefs and churches that are often at odds with each other, to tell the truth. It’s rather endlessly fascinating.

A couple more critical blog posts here and here. (the latter has a fascinating comment unraveling the doings and aspirations of Osteen’s fellow preacher brother-in-law.)
