A luxury senior-citizens apartment building with no connection to the Church has been named “The Bernardin”

The power to grant the authority for the commercial use of the Bernardin name is the legal province of the archdiocese of Chicago,” spokesman Jim Dwyer said. “I don’t think (the developer) realized that.”
.
An investigation by the archdiocese has found the developer acted in “good faith” in trying to get the church’s approval to use Bernardin’s name. Developer Daniel McCaffery acted after Monsignor Kenneth Velo, Bernardin’s longtime executive assistant, gave his blessing to the name. Velo said he spoke to Bernardin’s sister, who he says called it a “lovely gesture.”
