I can’t speak for anyone else but *I* hold Bush and every other political leader to just as high a standard on abortion or any other justice issue as I do a Catholic candidate. Which is why I regularly catch heat for my refusal to anoint GWB the patron saint of the prolife movement. He’s better than a Kerry would be on the issue, for sure, but he’s still of the “can’t get my hands dirty by actually appearing at the March for Life” school of GOP “leaders.” Which don’t impress me much.

But the context of this particular ongoing conversation is being Catholic in America, being a Catholic leader in America, a public Catholic in America, and how we work that out in our lives both public and private.
