Prayer Plain and Simple

Happy Reading!!!

If you are a model, the gig of your dreams would have to be Victoria’s Secret.  Kylie Bisutti won a VS model search in 2009.  But recently Kylie Bisutti quit.

On Good Morning America Bisutti said, “I just became so convinced of honoring the Lord and my body and wanting to be a role model for other women out there who look up to me.”

She went on to say, “I was growing in my relationship with the Lord and my faith. I’m a strong believing Christian. It was more of just a heart issue for me.”

She was married recently and said that she wanted to keep her marriage special, but her husband did not influence her decision although he was supportive.

“I’m so thankful that he let me grow and let me come to this decision on my own.”

There were other factors that helped her make this decision.

“I was doing my makeup in the mirror one day and she was watching me.  She looked at me and was like, ‘You know, I think I want to stop eating so I can look like you.’

“It just broke my heart because she looks up to me and I didn’t want to be that type of person that she thought she had to do that to be beautiful,” she said. “Thousands of girls that think that being beautiful is an outer issue and really it’s a heart issue.”

Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord and he will lift you up.

by PallaA girl in my youth group at church calls Valentine’s Day “single’s awareness day”.

My third grade class will celebrate by giving each other high amounts of sugar. (which I will tell them to eat at home, you’re welcome parents)

Last year Eryn and I celebrated by not answering the phone. It was a lame date by other people’s standards, but we enjoyed the quiet. So, I woke up this morning with a couple of crises and some bad news on my phone, all related to my “part time” job (pastoring). I guess Problems didn’t look at the calendar and realize it was Valentine’s Day.

But for me, the day after Valentine’s Day is one of the most important days ever. 30 years ago today, my parents went on their first date. She was a preacher’s kid (the innocent kind) and he was in a rock n’ roll band. Apparently it was a kinda lame date as well because my dad was playing bass the entire time while my mom watched a bunch of people not dance.

It makes me wonder, how often the down times and the “lame dates” become the times when significant problems or amazing experiences come about? We are always waiting for the next thing and seldom realize the lame parts of life are part of our short lives. Enjoy each moment and look for the significance in the mundane. You may find more than you realized.

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. 1 John 4:18

A lot of people live in fear (the scared kind).  Sure, we need to fear (the respect kind) but we don’t need to fear (the scared kind) in our Christian walk.

The word “perfected” is also the word “matured”.  So this can say:

There is no being af in love, but mature love throws out scaredyness.  For being scared has to do with punishment, and who ever is scared has not been matured in love.

Are you living scared of God.  That’s not what He wants, much like we don’t want our children to “love” us because they are scared not to.

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” Lamentations 3:22-24

Somehow God got a bad reputation of being a cosmic killjoy that hold a grudge.  That can really warp your relationship with Him.  In reality, everyday is a new beginning.  God knows that is exactly what I need.  His love never ends.  If we buy into that, it can change the way we live.

Here is a video. Here is the text from it. What do you think?

What if I told you, Jesus came to abolish religion?
What if I told you getting you to vote republican, really wasn’t his mission?
Because republican doesn’t automatically mean Christian,
And just because you call some people blind, doesn’t automatically give you vision.
If religion is so great, why has it started so many wars?
Why does it build huge churches, but fails to feed the poor?
Tells single moms God doesn’t love them if they’ve ever been divorced
Yet God in the Old Testament actually calls the religious people whores
Religion preaches grace, but another thing they practice,
Tend to ridicule Gods people, they did it to John the Baptist,
Cant fix their problems, so they try to mask it,
Not realizing that’s just like sprayin perfume on a casket
Because the problem with religion is that it never gets to the core,
It’s just behavior modification, like a long list of chores.
Let’s dress up the outside, make things look nice and neat,
Its funny that’s what they do to mummies, while the corpse rots underneath,
Now I ain’t judging I’m just saying be careful of putting on a fake look,
Because there’s a problem if people only know that you’re a Christian by that little section on your facebook
In every other aspect of life you know that logics unworthy
Its like saying you play for the lakers just because you bought a jersey
But see I played this game too; no one seemed to be on to me,
I was acting like church kid, while addicted to pornography.
I’d go to church on Sunday, but on saturday getting faded,
Acting as if I was simply created to have sex and get wasted.
Spend my whole life putting on this façade of neatness,
But now that I know Jesus, I boast in my weakness.
If grace is water, then the church should be an ocean,
Cuz its not a museum for good people, it’s a hospital for the broken
I no longer have to hide my failures I don’t have to hide my sin,
Because my salvation doesn’t depend on me, it depends on him.
because when I was Gods enemy and certainly not a fan,
God looked down on me and said, “I want that man!”
Which is so different from religious people, and why Jesus called em fools
Don’t you see hes so much better than just following some rules?
Now let me clarify, I love the church, I love the bible, and I believe in sin
But my question, is if Jesus were here today, would your church let Him in?
Remember He was called a drunkard and a glutton by  “religious men”
The Son of God not supported self-righteousness, not now, not then.

Now back to the topic, one thing I think is vital to mention,
How Jesus and religion are on opposite spectrums,
One is the work of God one is a man made invention,
One is the cure and one is the infection.
Because Religion says do, Jesus says done.
Religion says slave, Jesus says son,
Religion puts you in shackles but Jesus sets you free.
Religion makes you blind, but Jesus lets you see.

This is what makes religion and Jesus two different clans,
Religion is man searching for God, but Christianity is God searching for man.
Which is why salvation is freely mine, forgiveness is my own,
Not based on my efforts, but Christ’s obedience alone.
Because he took the crown of thorns, and blood that dripped down his face
He took what we all deserved, that’s why we call it grace.
While being murdered he yelled “father forgive them, they know not what they do”,
Because when he was dangling on that cross, he was thinking of you
He paid for all your sin, and then buried it in the tomb,
Which is why im kneeling at the cross now saying come on there’s room
So know I hate religion, in fact I literally resent it,
Because when Jesus cried It is finished, I believe He meant it.

Sometimes we are exclusive with our friends. I’m part of a fairly elite circle of people actually. We do fairly elite circle of people thing at fairly elite circle of people parties.

But Jesus was a friend of sinners, the despised, and the hated.

He didn’t shelter himself to protect his holiness.

Rather, his holiness was so powerful it would infect others.

So, do we take notice, or do we stay in our circle?

In the midwest, students are spending the bulk of their prayers on one thing: snow.  Did I say students? I meant to say teachers.  Everyday I get up and check the 10 day forecast, right after my awesome quiet time and p90x of course, which I NEVER miss.  🙂

I’m looking for one thing… the snow graphic.  You know the one.  The one that parks in that neat little blue column called “Mon”. No two snowflake graphics are alike, but I can’t tell the difference.  As soon as I see it I look at the bottum to see my odds of winning.  10%. 10%? 10%!

Guess we will be having school on “Mon”.

What do you check on regularly?

My dog won’t stop barking.  I’m pretty sure my neighbors probably hate him.

He’s just doing his job though.  I mean really, it’s not like he can bark quietly.  “Shh, Ringo, a little quieter please.”

Have you ever heard a dog whisper, except the kind that have been debarked? Which in that case it is really sad and kinda of hilarious at the same time.  You know it’s true.

Is he supposed to never bark again?  What if you could never talk again?  What if I could never talk again?  Then I couldn’t evangelize the world to tell them about the good news of Jesus Christ.  I would be reduced to using this blog to communicate to the masses.

Ringo, I feel your pain.
