Kathie Lee Gifford, Today Show co-host is the latest celebrity to put her foot in her mouth.  Not only is she the epitome of glamorizing cocktails on TV, but now she may be  implying that bad parenting might mean your child will become a drug addict. In a recent interview with Family Circle magazine she offended some parents of addicted kids by saying, “I’m not a perfect mom, but my kids haven’t been arrested, in rehab or kicked out of school, so I must be doing something right!”   As a psychotherapist and recovery coach and someone who understands addiction personally and professionally, if you have not been touched by the ravages of addiction, many people just don’t get it; and it appears Kathie Lee Gifford may be one of them.  Angry parents who get the disease of addiction slammed her Facebook page directing with one parent calling her a “thoughtless human being”, for her in-sensitive comment.


This speaks to my belief that celebrities   have the unique  opportunity to educate the masses about the drug addiction epidemic that surrounds us and is growing every day.  Celebrities also have the opportunity to  be positive role models and may want to reconsider  glamorizing  drinking cocktails, especially in the wee morning hours  either.  I’m just saying……
