Arcade Fire Burns Justin Bieber

In another victory for art in music, Arcade Fire took home the Juno award for Album of the Year Sunday night.  The Canadian band bested teen pop star Justin Bieber, whose album My World 2.0 was nominated in the same category.  Also falling to the indie-alt outfit was superstar Drake, who I didn’t even realize was from Canada.  Canada is taking over people.  It’s Celine Dion all over again.

The Suburbs became just the second album to take home Album of the Year awards at the GRAMMYs and the Juno awards.  The only other to pull it is Alanis Morissette’s 90s pop opus Jagged Little Pill.  I may get made fun of for this, but to me that is some really good company.  Alanis Morissette is a fantastic musician and one of the best Canadians out there.

Congratulations to Arcade Fire!  Now when is your 3D movie coming out?

What about Bryan Adams? He’s a real Canadian hero. I wonder what Rush thinks of all this.

Some other Canadians in the music biz? How about Shania Twain, Diana Krall, Michael Buble, Leslie Feist and of course another winner from this years Junos, Neil Young. Along with producers David Foster and Daniel Langlois.

I could keep going but you get the idea…

There are loads of Canadians in the ‘biz, the Celine Dion thing was more to poke fun of her than to poke fun at Canada. Who isn’t down with picking on Celine? If I wanted to make fun of Canada I would have brought up Nickelback… oh wait I just did!

Seriously, some of my favorite artists are Canadian. 90s Our Lady Peace and the great Matthew Good just to name a couple.

What about the dude who wrote that “Life is a Highway” song? That should have won some Grammys.

uh…Prophet? You do realize that I DID know that Young wasn’t from Alabama and from Canada instead, right?

That was “the southern Man don’t need him around anyhow” joke. And how Young used to get death threats in AL.
