This means of proseletyzing is very popular within some segments of Christian culture. It is available in many forms: t-shirts, bumper stickers, buttons, mousepads, pencil holders, coffee mugs, keychains and innumerable other solid objects, including mints.

There is a prayer Jesus taught his disciples to pray. He talked about it during the sermon on the mount. It doesn’t emphasize material gain but it’s still pretty neat, mainly because Jesus actually told his followers to pray in this way. I’m just sayin’.

American Protestant churches often have a program called a Women’s Ministry. As with most specialized church programs, the bigger and more warehouse-y the church, the more likely it is that it will have a Women’s Ministry.

Many evangelical Christians carry a terror inside their chest that if they appear less than happy all the time then they will have violated the terms of some sort of Jesus Marketing Contract.

Churches need to attract people. They need to be cool. It seems they think the message of Christ’s grace is not enough on its own, it must be accompanied by worship music played to tracks, preachers who offer sermon series such as “The Pathway of Peace”, and services that last 58 minutes. (Other words in the relevant lexicon include “emergent,” “resurgent,”
“missional,” and “authentic.”)
