This is possibly the easiest commandment to explain.  We all know what it means to take someones life and that it is something we should not do.  I suppose the exceptions would be during battle in he military and when defending ones home and family.  I still doubt if I could actually do it.  Maybe to defend small children, but even that is a maybe.

Death is so final. When we watch movies and  television it doesn’t seem that way, because the same person can be killed several times an still show up in another movie.  Adults can comprehend this, but children really can’t understand the finality of death.  Death means someone is never coming back.

If I am facing a man with a gun and he kills me, I know where I will spend eternity.  If I kill him instead, I know where he will spend eternity.  Perhaps I should give him another chance to repent and I will just go be with Jesus.  I know others don’t share that opinion, but we each have a right to our own.

We shouldn’t do anything that might even possibly lead to another’s death.  Many people go to prison for accidents that result in death.  Maybe we should say,”You should not push anyone”.  If we push them too hard, they crack their head open on some hard object, and die; we have just killed them.  It may have never been our intent, but the result is the same.  Throwing someone into the lake can be good for a laugh, but if they can’t swim, you might kill them.

If we learn to turn the other cheek when hurt by others and to treat them like we want to be treated, I don’t think we need to worry about killing anyone.  God’s instructions for life are all entangled together, but they work in unison.
