A few nights ago we experienced the largest solar flares in over 8 years. These solar storms travel at 4 million MRH. When the geomagnetic particles meet with the Earth’s atmosphere, they create a beautiful sights in the skies. These are what we refer as the Northern Light or Aurora Borealis. They put on a spectacular light show that normally is seen in only the far north regions of the world. This particular event can be seen as far south as Michigan.
The biggest issue with these solar storms is radiation, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Space Weather Prediction Center in Colorado. The radiation is mostly a concern for satellite interruptions that can adversely affect our astronauts in space. NASA’s flight surgeons and solar experts examined the effects and decided that the 6 astronauts on The International Space Station do not have anything to protect them from this radiation.
This radiation, in the form of protons come flying off the sun’s surface. The whole volume of space between here and Jupiter is just filled with protons and there is no way to get rid of them.
Most of the chaos caused by this event has been power outages, satellite disruptions, and communication problems for polar traveling airplanes. Some flights had to be rerouted to avoid this danger.
It is comforting to understand that our God created all of the universe, this solar system as well as others. He controls it all. If the Earth gets fried by a huge solar blast or disintegrated by a meteorite it will in His timing and for His purpose. NASA and The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Space Weather Prediction Center, know their stuff…….but God created all the stuff!
We can trust Him to know what is best for us individually and as a universe. All these awesome planets are held in place by His power alone. Genesis chapter one tells us how our world and all that is in was created. It plainly states that He created the Earth. I just happen to believe God’s word is true.
