It’s amost harvest time here in Ohio.  Some things have already been harvested, like the wheat, hay, oats,  rye and barley.   The cabbage is coming off now and the tomatoes have begun to turn red.  We have fields of all kinds around this part of the state.  The sweet corn is just about finished, but the field corn won’t be harvested until October.

We have a Heinz factory here that processes pickles and tomatoes.  The Fremont Company makes sauerkraut from the cabbage fields.  We used to have a sugar plant that made granulated sugar from sugar beets, but it moved out of town.  We also have all kinds of  fruits grown here: strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, cherries, peaches, plums, apricots, grapes, watermelon, cantaloupes, pears, and many kinds of apples.

The Bible has a lot to say about sowing and reaping.  Jesus used farm principles to teach many parables.  In Genesis 8:22, it tells us that as long as the earth remains  seedtime and harvest shall not cease.

2 Corinthians 9:10 says, “He that sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he that sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.”  So let’s sow lots of seed.

In Galatians 6:7 God tells us that we will reap whatever we sow.  So let’s sow good seed.  We will also reap the same kind fruit or vegetable as we plant.  If we plant strawberries, we will reap strawberries.  If we plant cabbage, we will harvest cabbage.  Have you ever seen a carrot growing from tomato seeds?  I don’t think so.

In the spirtual  realm this is also true.  If we sow discord and lies, we will reap the same.  If we sow love and compassion, we will harvest that also.  We choose what we plant whether in the natural or in the spiritual.  So if we want to have a harvest of peace and faithfulness, that is what we must plant.  If we want our life to produce hope and contentment, that is what we must sow.

Unfortunately, the same is true if we sow bad seeds like, hatred and jealousy, or fear and contempt.  We all must choose what we want to produce in our walk with Jesus.  This principle is like the law of gravity, we don’t have to believe for it to be true.  God said it and He cannot and does not lie.
