A Simple Life, a Childlike Faith

Friendship Ministry Leadership team in Orlando

LauraLee Wright

This is horribly short notice but I just received it myself.  I wish I could attend a day with Nella Uitvlugt on January 14 at Northland Church; but Saturdays are out for me because of my Special Gathering program in Vero.  This email is from Lauralee Wright of Northland Church in Orlando (Longwood), FL.

Many of you are aware that the Children’s Pastor’s Conference is in Orlando, FL next week. With that, we have a few folks who will be presenting on Special Needs Ministries and the need for inclusion on January 14 at Northland Church in Longwood, FL.

One of the folks who will be in town is Nella Uitvlugt, Executive Director of Friendship Ministries in Grand Rapids Mi.  Nella and her crew have over the years developed some great materials for teens and adults who have intellectual disabilities as well as a model for doing what is called Friendship Club. Friendship Ministries is a not-for-profit organization that exists to help churches and organizations around the world share God’s love with people who have intellectual disabilities. Nella has made time in her schedule to meet with us to talk about the aspects of ministering to this group of people who want and need a Savior just like the rest of us!

We will meet at Northland Church, 530 Dog Track RD, Longwood, FL. At 9 AM on Saturday, January, 14! We will be in the main Worship Center, someone will be downstairs to greet you and guide you to the room which most likely will be 4210. Please pass this on to other churches and other agencies who may be interested in attending. If you plan to attend, please RSVP to
I look forward to seeing many of you on January 14!

Hoping that tapes or conference materials will be made available.

I’m not sure but I’ll check with Northland and see. I’ll get back with you. Great question. If I know them, they are set up for that.

So glad to see this subject addressed. “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” Proverbs 4:7

Willing to Change
Last May I was working when I made a mistake.  While I understood that I was to blame, my first reaction was to fix blame in other places.  As I look back on my reaction, I realize it was unrealistic for me to revert into defensive mode, ...

Justice and Mercy
As we know, it was God's undeniable sense of justice that demanded that He allow Jesus to be sacrificed on the cross.  However, it was God's mercy that allowed this perfect human to be killed for the sin of all mankind.  While we can do ...

Explaining Grace
In the past weeks, I’ve been going over some of the key words in our covenant relationship with God with the members of my community who are intellectually disabled.  Perhaps one of the most important words we use is grace. Most of us have ...

Holidays and grief
Today, I heard again the Christmas song about the little boy whose mother is dying on Christmas eve and he wants to buy her shoes to wear as she goes into heaven. He doesn’t have enough money to buy the shoes and a person in line gives him the ...
