Good Friday

From the cross Jesus declared, “It is finished.” for all of heaven and hell to hear. It echoed through the ages. The human experience was cosmicly changed. God had accomplished His plan to redeem all of mankind.

When we think that tithing, serving at church, being kind to our neighbor, not cheating on taxes, getting up early for devotional time, “being good”, somehow makes God love us more, earns us favor with God, we do not understand, “It is fnished”. What part of “it is finished” do you not get? We can do nothing to earn anything with God. My nephew, Tullian Tchividjian, has written a marveous little book but so profound: Jesus + Nothing = Everything. I suggest you get a copy and let the truth of it sink deep into your heart, mind and soul.

His redemption is free. A free gift. All we have to do is accept it. That’s what is so amazing about God. He did all of that for you and me – no strings attached. No pre-qualification. It’s free. He loves us that much. How can we not worship today and everyday with a grateful heart. That’s the best way to celebrate Good Friday – worship.

Recently I wrote a post for facebook about Jesus praying in Gethsemane and how his followers fell asleep while he prayed. He prayed “Let this cup pass.” and, ” Thy Will be done” and a few days later he was on the cross still praying, “my God, why have you forsaken me.” Jesus prayed until the end and so should we. His prayer was not answered. or was it? It was, and that what separates Christians from all other religions. Christ came back to life and lives with us today. Keep praying even if you don’t see or know the answer Now!

War is Hell!
War is hideous. In recent years I think, in many ways, we have become immune to war's hideousness and ugliness. We watch wars play out on television sitting in our living rooms. War is a decision men/women make in Washington and we rarely feel ...

I heard on the radio this morning that ISIS has taken more Christian hostages in Syria. And the politicians are wringing their hands wondering what should be done. So much is happening in the world but Monday morning the news broadcasts were ...

Martyrs
We have heard that 21 Coptic Christians died at the brutal hands of ISIS over the weekend. They are martyrs for their faith. As I was having my devotions this morning the words of an old hymn written by Frederick Faber came to ...
