Good Friday

From the cross Jesus declared, “It is finished.” for all of heaven and hell to hear. It echoed through the ages. The human experience was cosmicly changed. God had accomplished His plan to redeem all of mankind.

When we think that tithing, serving at church, being kind to our neighbor, not cheating on taxes, getting up early for devotional time, “being good”, somehow makes God love us more, earns us favor with God, we do not understand, “It is fnished”. What part of “it is finished” do you not get? We can do nothing to earn anything with God. My nephew, Tullian Tchividjian, has written a marveous little book but so profound: Jesus + Nothing = Everything. I suggest you get a copy and let the truth of it sink deep into your heart, mind and soul.

His redemption is free. A free gift. All we have to do is accept it. That’s what is so amazing about God. He did all of that for you and me – no strings attached. No pre-qualification. It’s free. He loves us that much. How can we not worship today and everyday with a grateful heart. That’s the best way to celebrate Good Friday – worship.

Recently I wrote a post for facebook about Jesus praying in Gethsemane and how his followers fell asleep while he prayed. He prayed “Let this cup pass.” and, ” Thy Will be done” and a few days later he was on the cross still praying, “my God, why have you forsaken me.” Jesus prayed until the end and so should we. His prayer was not answered. or was it? It was, and that what separates Christians from all other religions. Christ came back to life and lives with us today. Keep praying even if you don’t see or know the answer Now!
