So now Vatican spokesman Rev. Federico Lombardi has gone to the mountain and come back
with confirmation that the pope not only said what he meant but also
meant what Austin Ivereigh said he meant–that the use of condoms for
the sake of preventing infection was a step in the right moral direction
for women (and transsexuals) as well as male prostitutes:

“I personally asked the pope if there was a serious, important
problem in the choice of the masculine over the feminine,” Lombardi
said. “He told me no. The problem is this … It’s the first step of
taking responsibility, of taking into consideration the risk of the life
of another with whom you have a relationship.”

“This is if you’re
a man, a woman, or a transsexual. We’re at the same point. The point is
it’s a first step of taking responsibility, of avoiding passing a grave
risk onto another,” Lombardi said.

That, Rev. Jim Martin told the AP, is “a game-changer.” For the full Martinization, check out his post over at In All Things. Meanwhile, Mollie gives Cathy Grossman a pat on the back for taking the “nothing new here line” on her USA Today blog . Methinks some rethinking is in order. OMG, could the MSM have got it right? Could this be exactly how the See of Peter contrives shifts of position?
