US beats the Swiss

But the Canadian crowd was cheering for the Swiss over us because they were still ticked that we beat them:

And that U.S. victory over Canada has apparently tweaked many northern neighbors. The crowd at the game Wednesday was clearly rooting for the Swiss. There were many Americans in the stands, but they were outnumbered by the hockey-crazed Canadians who cheered every save by Switzerland’s goalie Jonas Miller.

We really ticked them off by beating their team. If America wins the gold in hockey on Canadian soil, I don’t think the Canadians would be able to handle it.

Canadians are like people all over the world – tendency to anti-American. A Canadian woman in a diversity training class I took in Switzerland said the reason for the anti-Americanism was jealousy of America being more powerful.
Anti-Americanism throughout the world did not start with Bush. He did cause a substantial increase in anti-Americanism.

I wasn’t aware that your worldview is so fragile that you can’t accept the Swiss hockey team composed of amateurs. Well, at least you can revel in your jingoism after the 6-1 victory over powerhouse Finland.

Things got very tense during the Olympics. The US sent 15 divisions to the Canadian border and the Canadians responded by mobilizing their regiment of peacekeepers armed with the latest marshmallow guns.
