Absolutely amazing story of a child who was dropped out of a window by his father who was trying to save him from an apartment fire. They’re not sure if the child’s parents survived. I can’t imagine what went through that father’s mind as his child slipped through his fingers and he watched him plunge to the ground. I hope that he saw that his baby was caught by a police officer.

Tenants located on the lower floors of the building handed their children to German firefighters on ladders.
But the parents in the photograph were too high up, and made the harrowing decision to drop the young boy to the crowd below. He was caught safely by an off-duty police officer who just happened to be in the neighborhood.
