Earlier this week I blogged about how we tend to approach poverty in the aggregate, using abstract and enormous statistics. [Original Post]

Last month, one of our staff members visited a classroom of 170 orphans and vulnerable children. So many children packed this room, she had to take two photos–and that still didn’t capture all the faces.

When you hear that there are 143 million orphans in the world, I want you to have this image in your mind.

Awassa Classroom.jpgEach of these children is targeted by top 5 child killers in Africa. There’s just one teacher for all the kids you see in this photo.

What if we could connect a sponsor to every child in this picture?

Imagine that every child in this room knew that there was a loving family in the United States that called them their own?

Do you know that some of our kids in Swaziland address their sponsor letters, “Dear Mom & Dad?”

It’s not just sponsorship. It’s much more than $34 a month.

These kids are longing for belonging.

You can give a child a home without leaving your home–without leaving the chair you’re sitting in. Find out more about Ethiopia, and sponsorship with Children’s HopeChest.
