Calling all Catholics: Your chance to vote AGAIN!

posted by David Gibson

Yes, you CAN…tell us how you voted and why–and send a message to all those exit pollsters and post-mortem pundits by taking this very brief Beliefnet survey. Check back soon for ALL results from voters of all faiths. We want to get enough Catholics to make it a representative sampling. Gratias.

I am Catholic who is repelled by abortion on demand. HOWEVER, I was wearing my Obama shirt the other day and a Marine just back from Kirkuk Iraq came up to me and said thank you for trying to bring us home. He has served 2 tours and said the Iraqis want us to leave. He said that we are not there for the Reasons Bush told us we are and that the weapons barons are getting very rich. This is about blood for oil and control of lands. 1.5 million Christians are gone from Iraq. America has banished Christianity in Iraq. The saddest thing was that he said he no longer believes in God because of what he has seen over there.
To the 33% of Catholic Bishops, who have, once again, sinned by telling people they will go to hell for voting against the war that John Paul II said was not a just war, may God grant you his pardon and his peace. Abortion is NOT the only issue in any election. Jesus was also concerned with ALL forms of killing–starvation, war, etc. Not one Republican Candidate has ever actually done anything about abortion, except pay lip service to it to get votes, then shut up after the elections. Every single referendum to limit abortion in many US states this election was voted down by the non-Catholic voters. America is not a Roman Catholic Theocracy. You do not win hearts and minds by telling people that they will go to Hell if they do not vote as you tell them to. This is NOT the Inquisition. By doing this, the Church runs the risk of losing forever its tax exempt status in a Federal Lawsuit brought by far left liberals, for once again breaking laws prohibiting campaigning from the pulpit. I respectfully ask the 1/3 of American bishops to encourage peaceful protest, public discussions, prayer, fasting and winning the hearts and minds of people with LOVE. When they point their index fingers and tell others they sin when they vote, they have three fingers pointing back at themselves. Peace

The GOP is at a crossroads and must decide whether they want to follow the Constitutionally based, fiscally conservative road or the religious/socially neo-conservative one. Will their future be Ron Paul, Chuck Hagel, Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sarah Palin, George Bush?
I voted for Obama because I was looking for a candidate who would use the US Constitution as his guide is running the government. The United States of America is not a neo-conservative theocracy.
I also believe he and his administration will lower the abortion rate in this country.
I believe they will save lives by dealing diplomatically with issues rather than going in like some cowboy wannabe who has seen too many John Wayne films whose action have lead to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent men, women and children.
I believe they will protect my religious freedom without impugning on others.
I believe more in hope than feel and I believe that diversity is a good thing.

God Bless America!
We have failed you!
I am sorry!
In God We Trust!
Where is that, oh it is on our currency!
And it will be on our currency for how long?

When Generosity, Love, and Kindness are Public Policy, the Violence We Saw in Arizona will Dramatically Diminish
The attempted assassination of Congresswoman Giffords and the murder of so many others in Arizona has elicited a number of policy suggestions, from gun control to private protection for elected officials, to banning incitement to violence on websites either directly or more subtly (e.g., Sarah Palin

The Spiritual Messages of Chanukah and Christmas -- and Their Downsides
Christmas and Chanukah share a spiritual message: that it is possible to bring light and hope in a world of darkness, oppression and despair. But whereas Christmas focuses on the birth of a single individual whose life and mission was itself supposed to bring liberation, Chanukah is about a national
