Prayer, Plain and Simple

He will send his angel ahead of you, and he will see to it that you find a wife there for my son.

“O Lord, God of my master, Abraham,” he prayed. “Please give me success today, and show unfailing love to my master, Abraham. See, I am standing here beside this spring, and the young women of the town are coming out to draw water. This is my request. I will ask one of them, ‘Please give me a drink from your jug.’ If she says, ‘Yes, have a drink, and I will water your camels, too!’—let her be the one you have selected as Isaac’s wife. This is how I will know that you have shown unfailing love to my master.” Before he had finished praying, he saw a young woman named Rebekah coming out with her water jug on her shoulder. (Genesis 24:7b, 12-14)

Finding a spouse requires supernatural help, guidance, and confirmation. The same God that helped Isaac find Rebekah can help you.

Father,

You are my Lord, and I want to live my life to please and worship you. The longing of my heart is to live a life of devotion to you alongside a life partner whose desires align with Yours. I pray that your angel would go before me to guide me to this person. I ask that you would grant confirmation, direction, and affirmation regarding this person. I realize I am asking for a considerable responsibility. Make me ready for this level of dedication and determination to be fit for marriage. It’s clear when I look around me that many fail in their aspirations to have a successful marriage. I believe that with your help, I will be successful. With your precepts to guide me, Your Spirit to convict me, Your Word to transform me, I will learn to love and be loved as you would have me.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen
