“Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God,
and keep the vows you made to the Most High.
Then call on me when you are in trouble,
    and I will rescue you,
and you will give me glory.”  ~Psalm 50:14,15

We buy insurance on our vehicles and home so that if something disastrous should occur, the insurance company will take the hit, and we won’t have to bear the burden. How can I ensure that God will be there for me when disaster strikes me or my family? God’s promise in Psalm 50 tells us that if we have a grateful heart towards God, his help will be available to us when we are in difficulty. Simple gratitude isn’t cheap, but it is a bargain when it comes to the benefits: inner peace and joy that spills over to all within earshot of our grateful tone.

My Father,

I leave behind a heart that is unobservant of your kindness and love towards me. I commit to look for ways in which you have blessed me – I’ll start with simple things like sunrises, good books, a cute kid, a flower in bloom, a small bird on my porch, a promise in your Word, a relationship you have healed, a body that functions well – all these things will be observed with a heart that constantly whispers, “Thank You, Father.”

Amen
