“She did what she could.” ~Jesus, Mark 14:8

A few days before Jesus paid the price for my blunders, sins, weaknesses, and failures by suffering a Roman execution, a woman broke into a private dinner party, and poured perfume over his head. This perfume was valued at what would be today around $50,000, an average year’s wage.

Mark, my brilliant Bible scholar husband (some people marry for money, I married for this), suggests that her perfume could very well have been her dowry. This was valuable in so many ways. Let’s suppose that Mark is right. Imagine the thoughts connected with such an act. This is what she would have said in her heart. Can you say this? Can I?

“Jesus, if I can’t have You, I don’t want anyone. You mean more to me than the love of any other person. I know You are set apart by God and that You love everyone in the world and your compassion extends to each and every heart on the earth. But I want You to know that no one else will ever have my full devotion. I will adore no-one other than You.”

Can you say, Amen, I’m in?

All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.

I surrender all,
I surrender all.
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.

All to Jesus I surrender,
Humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken;
Take me, Jesus, take me now.

All to Jesus I surrender,
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel Thy Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine.
