Prayer for Victims of the Explosion in Allentown

At least one person is dead and five others are missing from three homes after a natural gas explosion this morning in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

The fire that resulted from the explosion consumed an entire row of homes. Eight houses were destroyed and another 16 damaged. 500 to 600 people have been evacuated, including elderly residents of nearby high rise.

“God, we pray for those impacted by the explosion in Allentown. Bring healing to the injured. Bring comfort to those who have lost loved ones. Bring peace to those who have been displaced and have lost their homes. You do not cause disaster, but you can use pain to guide us to you. Work in this tragedy. In Jesus…”

William Carey (1761-1834) went to India in 1793 not 1893. His wife 1st wife Dorothy was unsuited to the missionary life being both physically and mentally fragile and suffered greatly in India from the living conditions and the loss of several children. Some of my relatives ancestors were connected with Lall Bazaar Baptist Church in Calcutta (now Carey Memorial) and had printing done at the Baptist Mission Press at Serampore. One of William’ Carey’s great gifts was to be able to engage with people of other World Faiths and he was able to establish good relations with local Muslims and Hindus but was obliged to work outside of the areas controlled by the nominally Christian British East India Company who saw his work as a threat to their colonial power and trade monopoly.
