Prayer for the Floods in Australia

Deadly flash floods are swamping Australia today. Residents in Australia’s third largest city, Brisbane, have sandbagged their homes against the rising waters. The torrential rain just keep coming, worsening floods that have already paralyzed the northeast region and crippled most business.

At least four people have been killed in Toowoomba, a town west of Brisbane. Others are missing. Experts are now predicting that the disaster would stifle economic recovery in the nation this year.

The worst floods in Queensland in 50 years have over the last weeks covered areas the size of France and Germany combined. Dozens of towns have been isolated or partially submerged. More monsoon rains are expected all week.

“God we pray for Australia in the grip of these torrential rains and floods. Keep people safe. Give them hope and strength. Give officials wisdom to make right decisions in handling the disaster. Lord, we know that you send rain for the good of the land. But we ask that you would temper the tide in Australia. Calm the storms. Gentle the rain. We pray that out of this individuals and the nation as a whole would come closer to you. In Jesus…”

Pretty nice place you’ve got here. Thanks for it. I like such themes and anything connected to them. I would like to read a bit more on that blog soon.

My comment has been held for “review”. When will that occur?

This is about global warming. Warmer oceans, warmer moister air, more energy for extreme weather. Get a la Niña on top of it and there you go. Pray for us to be smart enough to get on top of it before it does us in.

The only gripe I have regarding this post, is that, whilst I acknowledge that we’re at polar opposites of the globe, and thus Southern Hemisphere news very rarely makes headway news-wise you’re a bit behind the eight-ball, so to speak. The floods in Queensland, have been gripping the state for about 2/3 weeks, now, and you report on it NOW? I mean, I know that it’s a bit tough, as news from Australia very rarely makes it into U.S headlines, but, in this technological age, one would have thought that you would have been on to this story almost as soon as the horrific tragedy struck. Come on guys!
To be fair, though, it is tragic, hey, the amount of destruction that has been wreaked on this once beautiful state. I guess we can relate to what you guys went through, many years ago, now, with Hurricane Katrina. As you may have read, what has been remarkable, and tremendous, is that Australia’s reputation for what we term mateship has been upheld. Complete strangers in these country towns have banded together to help each other in times of tragedy, as has been shown in the past. Come to think of it, and I was just thinking of this right now, it’s profoundly biblical, in relation to how we care for the stranger. Good post on the whole, though. Well done.

I ask prayers for my country too.
I live in Brasil and here in some places, the situation is the same that in Australia, maybe worse.
We need prayers for Brasil too.
    Thank you brothers and sisters.
