Taiwan Earthquake – Cause for Prayer in Shaky Times

posted by Mark Herringshaw

Yet another earthquake has struck, this one hit Monday off the southeast coast of Taiwan. It caused buildings to sway and sent “fear shockwaves” across the island, but no casualties or damage has been reported.  The 6.5 magnitude temblor was felt at the site of a massive landslide in northern Taiwan but did not hamper rescue efforts.

“Lord, there have been many earthquakes hitting around the world. We do not understand this. When and where they strike, earthquakes strike fear in us. We lose our footing – literally – and find ourselves feeling insecure. Bless all those in Taiwan who today are dealing with fear. Settle their hearts and also settle the earth. We know that the geological pressures of earth have to be released, but we ask that the shifts and movement will be measured and centered far from where they will threaten human life. We ask this in Jesus name.”

So this is pretty weird: I had a dream about an earthquake this morning…location unknown (but certainly not in Taiwan). And as I was thinking and praying about it, my thought was similar: Father, You control the movements of the earth. Please cause the fault lines to shift and release their pressure far from where they will injure your children.

Looks like Taiwan knows how to build structurally sound buildings, unlike China.

A Prayer For Our Kids Today
If you speak good words rather than worthless ones, you will be my spokesman. You must influence them; do not let them influence you! Jeremiah 15:19b We utter hundreds of words a day. How many of them are constructive? Oh that we would be obedient to the countless commands in Scripture to guar

My Unruly, Devastating Tongue. I Repent.
If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless. James 1:26 We can make a large horse go wherever we want by means of a small bit in its mouth. And a small rudder makes a huge ship turn wherever the pilot choose

The Shortest Prayer Can Be the Most Powerful
A friend of mine told me recently the story of a two-word prayer that she prayed that changed her life forever. Moments earlier she had given birth – an emergency C-section – to her firstborn, a son. In the midst of fear and elation, she suddenly realized that she wasn't up for the job. She coul
