Prayer, Plain and Simple

Prayer for Accepting God’s Will

It is one thing to pray for God’s will to be done in your life, but it is quite another to accept His will. Many of us talk a good game about wanting His will for our lives, but once it is revealed, we get scared and we run away from it. We let fear take over. Or we refuse to accept it because God’s will actually isn’t what we wanted at all. I can say all of this because I’ve been there and in many ways, I am there right now. I’ve long prayed for God’s will and purpose to be revealed in my life, but I never really took into consideration how I would respond to the revelation. I realize that not only should my prayer be, “Thy will be done” but also, “Let me accept thy will.”

Heavenly Father,

Your word in Isaiah 55:9, says, “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” And in response to your word I say, “I thank you for being above me and knowing what is best for me.” In this life, we are all searching for our purpose and asking for your will to be done. But let us not be blindsided and naive to think that as we ask, so we are ready for it to be revealed and respond accordingly. I pray that as each of us comes to a point in our lives where we dare to ask you to reveal your will for us, you would put us in a place of acceptance of what you reveal to us. It may not be what we want, but it will surely be what we need in order to live a life fully invested in you. When fear attempts to consume us, be the destroyer of the fear by your perfect love for we know it casts out all fear. When you see that we are tempted to turn back and ignore your will, chasten our spirits and helps us to see that you only want the best for us. Help us to realize that anything you bring into our lives and anything you reveal to us is for our good. Give us a spirit of acceptance and a heart open to your move in our lives. Most of all Lord, let us never get so caught up in seeking you out for a revelation that we forget to seek you, for you. Let us always desire to be with you above all things. Seeking your kingdom first and letting everything else be added afterwords. Letting your love surround us and cast out any fear or doubts. Help us to live in love with you, accept your will for our lives and give us the proper response to your revelation.

In Jesus’ Name,

Thank you very much for this prayer and your observation. Indeed if the God Lord was to come and question us about our acceptance of His Will in our Lives we would be greatly surprised about our Christian “hypocrysy” I am also right there and have been there many times. Right now I am going thru a financial crisis, but I prayed to God to accept His will. Your prayer is a great comfort to me. May God bless you. Cecilia

Thank you, this is just the prayer I was looking for. I am New to praying and I have been trying to find a way to voice this issue for a while now. I want God to show me the way and to make me realize what I should already know, I just feel like He has and I am blind to it because I don’t want to accept that His will is not what I would want if the decision were mine. I am bookmarking this and praying this prayer often. Thank you!

Please remember the sermon on the mount…”blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted”..Give it time, and God will heal you!

      • MarkandJill

The beautiful thing about the Sermon on the Mount is that we discover that no one is disqualified from blessing, no matter their background, their current situation, or their status on any account. We are all included in the blessing! What a reason to rejoice today!

dear Karyl I will pray for you even though you can’t make sense of it now just keep believing that God is bigger and always with you. You will always remember it and it (the death of your mom) will be always with you but I pray you find the peace and it is tough to do. I wrote a book and it is on Amazon a crushed rose: it my turn to talk by Marilyn peyton reinders I wrote about my life maybe you could try narrative therapy just write your feelings on paper and ask God to show you about your mother. God will answer you in His own way and in his own time
    God bless you

  • Carol Brown

Can you please pray for me that I would have legally blind pension and everything in God’s will in the name of Jesus

    • MarkandJill

“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Hebrew 4:16
Father, we boldly come to your throne of mercy with Carol’s need. We ask in your mighty power to meet her need; may she experience your great love and care for her today – your love that never fails. Give her eyes to see your hand of mercy at work in her life. Awaken all her senses to the realization that you never leave her or forsake her. Bless her, Father…Amen
