Prayer, Plain and Simple

Remembering Michael Jackson

At this moment, like many across the world, I am watching/listening to the Michael Jackson memorial service. It has been a deeply spiritual affair with the singing of “Soon and Very Soon” when his casket was being brought into the Staples Center to the singing of “Jesus is Love” to his celebrity friends acknowledging that he was God’s creation and is with God now. There is a spiritual electricity in the air that is unmistakable and yet a heaviness that is impenetrable.

Beliefnet’s Inspiration editor, Laurie Sue Brockway, wrote a prayer in honor of Michael Jackson and his family. I wanted to share that prayer at this moment when many hearts are set on celebrating and commiserating the life and times of Michael Jackson.

Dear God, Divine Spirit of love and compassion,
Please grace us with your loving presence,
As we take a moment to remember Michael Jackson.

The world has been stunned by the loss of one so young,
We grieve that life has come to an end for this great talent.
Many fans share this time of pain and sorrow…
