Katherine loves to travel. She thrives on the excitement of discovering new places and removing herself from the ordinary routine of everyday life. Despite her sense of adventure, she was never a big fan of flying— until something changed her perspective.

She was reading her daily devotional, when she came upon a passage, which caused her to think about what she’s missing by approaching air travel with dread instead of wonder.

Katherine realized it’s not only the vacation destination that takes her away from it all, but it’s the flight too. There are too many personal dramas and demands from other people that seem big and important when feet are on the ground. However, when you’re up in the air, above it all, you can look down and see that your problems are really pretty small after all.

Have you ever had spiritual awakening while sitting in the window seat? It’s a reminder of how great God is, and how we are all specks on a planet that’s only one part of the universe. This is a humbling experience.

Katherine suggests that we all would be a lot healthier if everyone could fly a little bit more. Not necessarily in an airplane. Simply take flight out of self-centeredness to a place where you are mindful of your role on Earth and fully conscious of God’s grandeur in the heavens. Become airborne and be humble before the Lord.
