Valentine’s Day: The Best Lover of All

Today is Valentine’s Day (as if you needed me to tell you!). And ‘they’ say that Valentine’s Day is for lovers. Well, that’s just swell if you have a lover, and even then it can go bust (manage your expectations – be grateful for the cheap – rather – inexpensive bouquet of carnations!).
Therefore, I request that you please join me in expanding and tweaking the meaning of Valentine’s Day to be a DAY of LOVE. And let LOVE start with YOU, as in “Love thyself, first and foremost.”
Love is an art that requires conviction, faith and daily practice. Self-love is within you, always available – ready to comfort and embrace.
Fully accept yourself this Valentine’s Day. You deserve to love yourself, no matter your size, hairstyle (I had the ultimate bad cut a few weeks ago and struggled with self-love.),or I.Q. (my brother was the smart one!).

Five Fabulous and Firey Tips on How to Exercise Your Self-Love Muscle

1. Write out a list of all the things you like about yourself. If you are short on ideas, ask a couple of good and kind friends. (Caution: steer clear of critical relatives.)
2. To get your day headed in the right direction, start the morning with a few self-loving affirmations. Write them first and then say them aloud. “My loving energy flows through me and out into the universe, connecting with all the Gods and Goddesses of love.” (Okay, a little over the top. I like a touch of drama.)
3. Every night jot down three things that you are grateful for. “I am grateful that I love myself.”
4. Praise and compliment yourself as often as possible. Criticism is soul crushing. Praise builds. “Wow, that chocolate smoothie I just whipped up was awesome”. “I am great.” “And woo hoo! Girlfriend, look at yourself in those tight-ass jeans.”
5. Look adoringly at yourself in the mirror. Accept yourself just the way you are. No kidding, you are really fabulous. No need to wait. Love yourself NOW.

Friday the 13th: Scared? You Should Be!!!

Friday the 13th is the most widespread superstition in America! AND – hold onto your unlucky hats – there appear to be three such happenings on our 2009 calendar: February 13, March 13, and November 13. For those of you who suffer from Paraskevidekatriaphobics, morbid fear of Friday the 13th, mark your calendars and take heed.
According to Dr. Donald Dossey, a psychotherapist specializing in the treatment of phobias, there may be as many as 21 million people in the United States who suffer from Paraskevidekatriaphobics!
The origins of this superstition are unclear. Nevertheless, whether you think Friday the 13th to be unlucky or not, I thought it useful to share 13 Ways to Improve Your Luck – a special BeliefNet Gallery by Janice Taylor (Oh, wow, that’s me! Crazy coincidence!!). After all, you can never have too much luck (or be too thin, or too rich either for that matter).
An excerpt from <a href="“13 WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR LUCK”
Luck is thought to happen by chance; it’s not thought to be something you can plan for or obtain by intention. Some say luck is decided by our fates, or believe that some fortunate souls are mysteriously born under a lucky star.
At quick glance, it might look like there is truth to that. After all, some people’s lives overflow with abundance, vitality, successful careers, and loving relationships.
However, luck is not just a random event. Webster’s Dictionary defines luck as “a force that brings good fortune or adversity; a force that operates for or against an individual.” So, if luck is a force, you should be able to tap into it … at any time!
After a great deal of research and experimentation, I am here to tell you that there are ways in which you can tap into positive force and improve your luck. Indeed, luck is the product of our own mental focus and attitudes. Imagine now that by changing your focus, you can intentionally increase the amount of luck you experience in all areas of life. …. to improve your luck, read on!

Happy Friday!

Now Serving Platterfuls of Second Chances: February Resolutions!

Not to bring up a sore spot, but as your resident Life, Happiness and Weight Loss Coach, I’ve been wondering how y’all are doing with your January resolutions? Are they working for you?
Often, we start the year off with the best of intentions, but the days melt into weeks and before we know it, we find ourselves in the middle of February not having fully followed through on our promises to ourselves. We’re left feeling disappointed, filled with remorse – feeling defeated, once again. Ugh. Such a pity party!
According to University of Scranton Professor of Psychology, John Norcross, about 75% of people who make resolutions are successful for a couple of weeks, and then be February 1, the number drops to 50% and so on.
AND THAT’S OKAY because truly this is a better time, a calmer time, a more balanced time, to step back, assess your situation, and set realistic goals. I consider January resolutions a warm up to the real thing. (Hey, did you see me post anything about January resolutions??? NO! I did not!!! Because I was busy warming up.)
NOW … having warmed up. Are you ready to move from a place of defeat and depression into victory and happiness?
Happiness is the key to everything, and I will tell you why. If you are NOT feeling happy with your life as a whole, it is very difficult to garner enough enthusiasm, drive and energy to make meaningful changes. You are on a downward spiral.
On the other hand, when you are feeling happy, you are more than likely filled with enthusiasm, possibility (I adore possibility) and energy, able to take on challenges of any magnitude, including happily saying “NO.” to the Devil’s Food!
We are entering a transitional time (not quite winter; not yet spring), which means that this is the perfect time to set reinvention and transformation into motion. This is the perfect time to set realistic goals that manifest feelings of happiness, which in turn will send us on an upward spiral.
The best place to start is by taking The Happiness Challenge. It’s free and easy and it will help you to take a good and honest look at your life.
So … let’s pause here. Take The Happiness Challenge. Let me know what your insights are. Maybe you’d like to start your “Upward Spiral Journey” by losing weight, maybe by improving relationships with loved ones, or maybe by having more fun! Yes, you can start moving forward simply by having fun!
Take the Happiness Challenge. Weigh-In On Your Next Steps!!

STUMP Wins It ALL: 5 Life Lessons From A Sussex Spaniel (video)

The odds were against Stump, the ten-year-old Sussex Spaniel, who won the 133rd annual Westminster Kennel Club dog show. AGAINST the ODDS:For one thing STUMP is OLD, a senior in dog years – 10. He re-emerged from retirement after taking a 5 year hiatus from the show ring (Stump won the sporting group in Westminster in 2004). No purpose, no energy, no p’zazz. Poor Stump, a champion at heart, went a wastin’. He spent 19 long, sad days in a pet hospital. Once recovered, Stump hung tight with his handler, Scott Sommer, living the dog’s life! STUMP LONGS FOR THE GREEN CARPET: Five days before this show, Sommer took Stump for one last walk on the green carpet at the Garden. And WOWZER! The old Stump returned, strutting and panting with style. Ears a floppin’. Walking like a champion, happy energy soaring. And, as they say, the rest is DOGstory!Vegas odds expert John Avello, who compiled odds for this year’s Westminster show, gave Stump, the Sussex spaniel odds of 275-to-1 to win it all. Stump proved that attitude reigns supreme. Age is merely a number. And if your ears are floppy and cute enough, you’re a winner no matter.LIFE LESSONS LEARNED FROM A DOG:

  • If Stump can, YOU CAN! (Not win the Westminster; but WIN!!!)
  • Take REALITY and toss it out the window. Odds – shmodds!
  • YOU make your own rules!
  • EXPERIENCE matters; age can trump youth!
  • CLAIM WHAT’S YOURS!!!
  • Be the winner you are; follow your heart, your star, your bliss! Be inspired!Spread the word … NOT the icing!Janice———————————————————————————–Janice Taylor is a Life & Wellness Coach, specializing in weight loss, reinvention, transformation & happiness, author, seminar leader and 50-pound-BIG-Time-LOSER!
