Lethal Drug Combinations! Can Your RX Kill You?

According to a study published by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies, about 51.5 million of the 3 billion prescriptions filled in the United States each year contain some sort of error. That averages out to 4 out of every 250 prescriptions. And while the good majority of these mistakes are minor errors, there still remains an estimated 1 in 1,000 chance that one of these errors is a life-threatening one!

Our Lady of Weight Loss’s Timely Tips on How to Minimize Your Risk of Receiving the Wrong Dose, Wrong Drug or a Lethal Combo of Both!

1. TIMING IS EVERYTHING! Pick up your prescriptions during down times. The busier the pharmacy, the more likely the errors. Steer clear if possible of Mondays, Fridays, just prior to holidays and the last day of the year, December 31. Everyone is trying to max out their prescription plans!
2. BEWARE OF LOOK-ALIKE NAMES! Double check if you’re getting, Celebrex (for arthritis pain) or Cerebyx (for epilepsy); Zyprexa (for bipoloar disorder and schizophrenia) or Zyrtec (for allergies); Topamax (for epilepsy and migraines) or Toprol-XL (for hypertension and migrains).
3. BEWARE OF SOUND-ALIKE NAMES! Clondine (for hypertension) or Klonopin (for anxiety); Lamivudine (for HIV infection) or Lamotrigine (for epilepsy); Prilosec (for grastroesophageal-reflex) or Prozac (for drepression or obsessive-compulsive disorder).
4. LETHAL COMBOS! Over-the-counter drugs and herbal remedies can be harmful just like prescription drugs. Be sure to tell your doctor and/or pharmacist any and all ‘drugs’ that you are taking.
5. FRUIT JUICE, SURPRISE ATTACK! Did you know that drinking grapefruit juice can cause your body to absorb too much of the drugs that you might be taking? Studies show that you should wash down your pills with water; not grapefruit juice or other fruit juices, for that matter!
6. BE PROACTIVE. Be your own best advocate. Ask questions! Clarify names of drugs, amounts to be taken, with whatever drugs you may or not may mix these drugs. And if you don’t like the answer, ask again!
Spread the word … NOT the icing!

Forget Bristol Palin: It’s TEA Time!

Time to take a break from Bristol Palin talking about how abstinence is not possible, the Chimp Attack and the Ashera Cat (I want one, too! Only $22,000), and join with me for a tea time break!

The Cheshire Cat: “We’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.”
Alice: “How do you know I’m mad?”
The Cheshire Cat: “You’re here, aren’t you?”
~ The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, Chapter 7, Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll
* * *

I stumbled across a copy of “Alice in Wonderland” while straightening up. I randomly opened the book and found myself at The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. Such a totally maddening yet delightful place to be! I could identify with Alice’s impatience. Truly, you can’t have more tea if you haven’t had any.
The book gave me pause for tea thought, which inspired me to have a tea party of my own. A late-afternoon of the gathering of the female tribe (sorry guys). I did a bit of research before sending out my invites.
The Tea Party presents an opportunity for us to enjoy a light meal (low-fat, low-cal, low-carb, of course!) with our friends in elegance – with grace and style. This respectable gathering, which occurs in the afternoon is most often attended by ladies (as in “lady,” “marchioness,” “viscountess,” “duchess” or “baroness”).
The Tea Party originated in Britain (as you may have guessed). Tea was a valuable commodity. So precious, in fact, that it was not left to the care of the housekeeper. Rather The Lady of the House kept an eye on it, and she would serve it herself … in the tradition of the Japanese tea ceremony.
The Duchess of Bedford of Woburn Abbey in Bedfordshire, Anna Russell, is credited as the originator of the tea party. She asked her maid to bring all their tea-making equipment into her boudoir in the late afternoon, at which time the Duchess enjoyed a cup of tea with a slice or two of bread and butter. Lovely!
It was so enjoyable that she soon invited a friend or two to join her and it quickly turned into a social gathering.
Should you decide to throw a Tea Party of your own, here follow a few tasty tidbits!

Our Lady of Weight Loss Tea Time Tips for Tea Parties, Including but NOT Limited to The Famed Mad Hatter’s Tea Party
1. Technically, you may serve tea at any time in the afternoon, but the generally agreed upon time is 4:00 p.m.
2. Creating an ambience that is conducive to relaxation and conversation is vital. Fresh flowers strategically placed throughout the room are a must, as is soft music. May I suggest Mozart.
3. If you are serving your guests, add sugar before lemon because the acid in the lemon will prevent the sugar from dissolving!
4. Place your finger tea sandwiches on a large floral platter, with doilies (silly me, of course!) between the sandwiches and theplate.
5. Who will you invite? It’s entirely up to you! BUT I suggest that you bestow upon your guests suitable titles that they so richly deserve and address their invitations properly. For example:
Lady Janice
requests the honor of the company of
Patti, Viscountess of the Circle DuPont
at
High Tea
Saturday, the twenty-first day of March
4:00 p.m.
26 Million Dollar Way
Pleasantville, USA

Enjoy your tea, your titles and your tiny sandwiches!

JigSaw Sunday: How Important is Your Health and Happiness???

Click to Mix and Solve
How IMPORTANT is “THIS” to YOU???
(this being your health, your weight, your determination to let go of what no longer serves you)
While talking to one of my star weight loss coaching clients (you are all stars in your own way), I asked after hearing about the various dietary transgressions of the week, “Well, just how important is THIS to you? On a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being the highest … how important is “THIS” to you?”
Because you know, Tushcateers, you don’t have to lose weight. Nope, you don’t. It’s your choice. Seriously. Even if it is clearly a problem in terms of your health and your self-esteem, you do NOT HAVE TO lose weight. It’s your choice.
Anyway, Star Client, replied “It’s a 12.” Wow! A 12!! For this client, permanently removing the excess weight (literally and figuratively), letting go of all that is weighing her down, is of vital importance. Once she got clear on how important “this” is to her, she got busy writing out a food plan for the week, she thought through possible strategies to navigate work and family gatherings; and then she added a few cups of happy thinking to the mix, and she was good to go.
And so, now, I ask YOU!!! How important is “THIS” to you? Here is a link to your “How Important Is THIS to YOU??? that you can place on your fridge, carry with you, meditate on. dog how important sign.pdf
How happy are YOU?
Take the Happiness TEST!
Food for thought!

Valentine’s Day: The Best Lover of All

Today is Valentine’s Day (as if you needed me to tell you!). And ‘they’ say that Valentine’s Day is for lovers. Well, that’s just swell if you have a lover, and even then it can go bust (manage your expectations – be grateful for the cheap – rather – inexpensive bouquet of carnations!).
Therefore, I request that you please join me in expanding and tweaking the meaning of Valentine’s Day to be a DAY of LOVE. And let LOVE start with YOU, as in “Love thyself, first and foremost.”
Love is an art that requires conviction, faith and daily practice. Self-love is within you, always available – ready to comfort and embrace.
Fully accept yourself this Valentine’s Day. You deserve to love yourself, no matter your size, hairstyle (I had the ultimate bad cut a few weeks ago and struggled with self-love.),or I.Q. (my brother was the smart one!).

Five Fabulous and Firey Tips on How to Exercise Your Self-Love Muscle

1. Write out a list of all the things you like about yourself. If you are short on ideas, ask a couple of good and kind friends. (Caution: steer clear of critical relatives.)
2. To get your day headed in the right direction, start the morning with a few self-loving affirmations. Write them first and then say them aloud. “My loving energy flows through me and out into the universe, connecting with all the Gods and Goddesses of love.” (Okay, a little over the top. I like a touch of drama.)
3. Every night jot down three things that you are grateful for. “I am grateful that I love myself.”
4. Praise and compliment yourself as often as possible. Criticism is soul crushing. Praise builds. “Wow, that chocolate smoothie I just whipped up was awesome”. “I am great.” “And woo hoo! Girlfriend, look at yourself in those tight-ass jeans.”
5. Look adoringly at yourself in the mirror. Accept yourself just the way you are. No kidding, you are really fabulous. No need to wait. Love yourself NOW.
How do you love thyself? Comment below!
