Make It or Break It: Why are you keeping your fat clothes?

Fat Suit.jpg
Eight years ago, when the Scales of Injustice (in this case the Scales of Justice) reflected that I had miraculously lost 50 pounds, I celebrated by ripping through my closet, pulling out and tearing down all my fat clothes and sorting them into three piles.
While I was doing the happy shimmy, the phone rang. “Hellooooo,” I sang.
It was my mother-in-law. “Hi! You sound happy. What are you doing?”
“I’m getting rid of my fat clothes! I’m bundling them up and taking them to Goodwill!” I replied.
“You are? Why are you giving away your fat clothes? What will you do when you gain the weight back?”
Before you get angry at my mother-in-law, she truly meant no harm. Losing it and gaining it was her experience of not just me, but of herself and numerous friends who had gone the ‘lose it – find it’ route.
“Precisely! I am not going to gain it back this time. We’re talking permanent fat removal, and it is gone for good. I am going to make it and nothing is going to break it!”
Actually, I felt more inspired than ever to live up to those words. I am going to make it and nothing is going to get in my way, weigh me down, or break my resolve. I returned to my shimmy and sorting!
I made three piles:
Pile 1- Clothing to be altered.
Pile 2- Clothing to be given away – i.e. donated.
Pile 3 -Clothing to be throw away – the ripped and faded.
I bundled the clothing to be donated and took straight to Goodwill. Last year, more than 58 million people donated to Goodwill. There are more than 3,300 Goodwill donations locations in North America (one has to be near you).

Miss Universe 2009: What does she eat? (video)

Whether you are a fan of beauty pageants or not, whether you were rooting for Miss Venezuela Stefania Fernandez or not, you’ve got to be wondering, “What are these girls eating? What’s their secret to their flawless skin?”Like the heart, stomach, and brain, your skin is an organ. In fact, it’s the largest organ in your body and it grows from the inside out. There are many nutrients, including protein, vitamins, minerals, healthy fats and water that are needed to condition, repair and regenerate your skin.Water, sometimes called the forgotten nutrient, rids your body of toxins and keeps skin moist. Be sure to drink approximately half your body weight in ounces per day.For healthy and beautiful skin, here’s the A, B, C skinny on the subject:Vitamin A helps to even out skin tone, diminish fine lines and may help to make skin more elastic. Sources: egg yolks, milk and dairy products, fish oil.Vitamin B controls oil secretion, decreases propensity towards blemishes, and helps to prevent scaly skin. Sources: Poultry, fish, whole grains, dried beans, bananas, meat, leafy green veggies as well as dairy products.Vitamin C helps heal scar tissue, cuts and bruises and protects against UVA rays. Sources: Citrus fruits, broccoli, cabbage, tomatoes, berries, melon, peppers, potatoes.Vitamin D helps to moisturize and condition skin.Sources: Egg yolks, salmon, herring and fortified milk.Vitamin E conditions and moisturizes skin, helps heal burns, inflammation, cuts, and irritation and may minimize formation of scars.Sources: wheat germ, nuts, vegetable oil, green leafy vegetables, whole grains.Essential fatty acids moisturize the skin while helping to maintain its barrier function. Sundae Puzzle: How to wake up happy

Click to Mix and Solve
This week’s jigsaw puzzle was inspired by the Our Lady of Weight Loss Internal Clock that I recently created!
It is a miracle clock if ever there was one! I keep it right next to my alarm clock and at night, when I set my alarm to wake up early, I also set my ‘internal’ alarm to wake up happy.
Try it! You might be surprised to learn just how effective this simple device is!

Neuroscience: You cannot break a habit.

Are you strong enough to break your habit?
Well, you may think you are, but the truth of that matter is that you cannot break or change a habit. You can, however, create new, better and even stronger habits. And while you may think that the old habits are forever gone, they are simply hiding out. At some point in time, one or more will get triggered.
Therefore, it is important that on that day that you mysteriously find yourself covered in cookie dough, after months and months of fat-burning perfection, that you simply remember this: An old habit got triggered. Plain and simple. No big deal.
In the old days, a tsunami of defeat may have rolled in and crushed you. But now you know better, don’t you? You are not weak, you are not bad, nor are you a failure. You are simply human and a habit came out of hiding. You can now continue moving forward on your journey to “Sveltesville.”
As Our Lady of Weight Loss says, “All is forgiven, move on!”
