I’ve often wondered how the words “weight loss” resonate with our psyche. The mere mention of either word often brings forth a myriad of uncomfortable thoughts and feelings. Imagine the two strung together.

Over the years, as a Weight Loss Coach, I’ve tried using other words and phrases, i.e. slim down, let go of excess weight, and permanent fat removal, in an effort to create a lighter, more comfortable path on which to walk.

Still, we are losing something; aren’t we?  Not only losing our excess weight, but our identity as well. Are we losing a part of ourselves?

What losses are associated with weight loss, other than the actual weight?
And how do you feel about those losses?

Here, 10 Quotes about Loss to help you ponder.

“Letting go is the lesson. Letting go is always the lesson. Have you ever noticed how much of our agony is all tied up with craving and loss?” ~ Susan Gordon Lydon

“Loss alone is but the wounding of a heart; it is memory that makes it our ruin.” ~ Brian Ruckley

“There really is only one ending to any story. Human life ends in death. Until then, it keeps going and gets complicated and there’s loss. Everything involves loss; every relationship ends in one way or another.” ~ Charlie Kaufman

“I guess by now I should know enough about loss to realize that you never really stop missing someone-you just learn to live around the huge gaping hole of their absence.” ~ Alyson Noel

“Anyone who has lost something they thought was theirs forever finally comes to realize that nothing really belongs to them.” ~ Paul Coelho

“At the temple there is a poem called “Loss” carved into the stone. It has three words, but the poet has scratched them out. You cannot read loss, only feel it.” ~ Arthur Golden, Memoirs of a Geisha

“You don’t know who is important to you until you actually lose them.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

“It sucks that we miss people like that. You think you’ve accepted that someone is out of your life, that you’ve grieved and it’s over, and then bam. One little thing, and you feel like you’ve lost that person all over again.” ~ Rachel Hawkins

“In time, in time they tell me, I’ll not feel so bad. I don’t want time to heal me. There’s a reason I’m like this. I want time to set me ugly and knotted with loss of you, marking me. I won’t smooth you away. I can’t say goodbye.” ~ China Mieville

“Gone. The saddest word in the language. In any language.” ~ Mark Slouka
