Happy Independence Day! Our Lady of Weight Loss thought that it would be fun to share three smoothie recipes today, in red, white and blue fashion! Because smoothies offer big nutrition! Being healthy is your patriotic duty.
“Let’s go retro, okay? We used to walk as a society. Walk 30 minutes a day, five days a week. Think of it as a patriotic duty for the good of our nation. Let’s start cooking again. Let’s use fresh products. You know what a joy both those activities are? The definition of health from the perspective of the World Health Organization is complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity. If you take that definition, you realize what an obligation all of us have.”
Smoothie Tip: The best way to mix your smoothie is to either start with the liquid or an ingredient like yogurt (heavier consistency). Then add the fruits or vegetables, and then the ice. Start your mixer on slow and slowly increase the speed. If too thin, add more fruit. If too thick, add more liquid.
RED: Cranberry, Black Cherry and Raspberry Smoothie
1/3 cup cranberry juice
1 cup black cherries, pitted
1/2 cup raspberries
1/3 cup plain yogurt
a few ice cubes
White: Yogurt and Banana Smoothie
1 banana, sliced
¾ c (6 oz) plain yogurt
1 Tbsp agave
½ tsp freshly grated ginger
an ice cube or two
Blue: Blueberry Ginger
1 cup milk (of choice: almond, full fat, skim, etc)
1/2 cup blueberries
1 frozen banana
3 Tbsp grated ginger
an ice cub or two
Blend one at a time. Enjoy. Repeat
