How are you on this fine morning?  Did you wake up and say, “I’m alive!” with reverence, acknowledging that each new day is a miracle?  Me neither!  Not first thing, anyway.  A rather large honkin’ vehicle road past my NYC window (oh, the joys of the big city) and let out a whistle/honk, call it what you like, that was loud and piercing enough to wake up all of upper Manhattan. It was just short of 5 a.m.  My first thought was “*&(#-$%*@&*#.”  :)  … and then I remembered to remember that a miracle had occurred.  I was awake, again!  Another day.

Waking up alive is the first miracle of the day.  I’m alive!  You’re alive!   The coffeemaker is — in this very moment — dripping me my first cup-a-joe.  Whatever the day may bring, the good, the bad, the fatty, I’m in miracle mode.  Feel free to take a moment and “toast” the morning with me!  (Ha, pardon the morning pun/joke.)

And now — speaking of miracles, I received an email from Tushkateer Pat M. from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, that was no joke!  It was real, honest, and having been “there” myself, some eleven years ago, when I took a leap of faith and permanently removed 50 pounds, I believe that we can all relate to Pat’s feelings and situation.

Dear OLofWL ~ At this point in my life, I think it would be a miracle if I permanently lost even one pound. I am tired of it all.  I am about ready to throw in the towel and head toward the fridge, the pantry, the 7/11 on the corner, to Mickey D’s and to hell with it all — super-size me! Any last ditch attempts to stop me?   ~ Sick n’ Tired, Pat M., Baton Rouge, LA

Dear Pat ~ I am absolutely 100% delighted to hear you say that you are sick n’ tired of being sick n’ tired!  (Huh? What did Ms. Positarian say?)

Before we can make change, especially in the world of permanent weight loss, we have to be ready and willing to change, willing to do what it takes.  For many of us (self-included), we need to get to that place where we have had it.  A place where we are sick and tired of the whole enchilada.  Tired of the yo-yo’ing, tired of the obsessing, tired of the self-deprecating talk, tired of tight pants, muffin tops, busted zippers and broken dreams!

When we arrive at Dieting Despair (1,000 miles south of Sveltesville), or — as some refer to it — when we hit bottom, an opportunity to move into the “lite” presents itself.

Pat, in that window of “lite,” you wrote me and disbosomed.  Disbosomed means to confess, to reveal. You revealed your truth; you disbosomed.  In the space between the words, I heard you say, “I am ready.  I am sick and tired of it all, and I am ready to change.”  So good, good, good that you are where you are.  You are sick and tired of being sick and tired.  You are ready for change.

Permanent weight loss is a holistic event.  Permanent weight loss is a mind-changing, life changing event.  You can lose weight, but you will find it again and again.  You are ready for permanent change.

So, Pat, she who is on the verge of throwing in the towel.  I say to you, “Good, good, good. Throw in the towel. The old towel. Start anew. And…”

1.  Wake up and declare today a miracle.
2.  Step into your (gentle) weight loss warrior gear.
3.  Embrace the possibilities.
4.  Fill up on determination.
5.  Expand your heart.
6.  Reach out.
7.  Claim what’s yours.

Thank you for writing and unloading, confessing, disbosoming and sharing you with us.

It’s not about the weight; it’s about your life.  Life on! ~ OLofWL
