Greetings !  I wanted to remind y’all just how important breakfast is and not just because research shows that those who eat breakfast lose more weight than those who do not.

More importantly, those who skip breakfast often find themselves draggin’ their irritable, tired and ample tushes around town.

After eight to twelve hours of NOT eating (fasting thus the name break-fast. duh?), your body is ready to and needs to refuel its glucose levels (a.k.a. blood sugar).  Glucose is the main energy source for your brain, and it helps fuel your muscles that move you through your day.

Sounds to me like a healthy breakfast is your first step toward creating a happy day!  True? or … true?

Chew on that why don’t you, and while you are at it, I’m thinking that I’m going to add a affirmation to today’s righteous recipe for you to chant!  Are you ready?  Yes, you are!

Power Up, Fuel Me Happy Oatmeal

Affirmation to be repeated while cooking, eating and clearing off the table.
“I am fueled with happiness.”

Ingredients:
1/2 cup Quaker oats, Scottish oats, or steel-cut oats
4 oz milk (soy milk, or maybe almond milk*)
cinnamon to taste
dash of salt
1/4 cup blueberries/strawberries
1/8 cup raisins, craisins or dates (go ahead and sprinkle any darn fruit you like)
1/4  cup Greek yogurt (low fat/full fat)**
a couple of chopped almonds (just a couple) ***

Instructions:
Cook up oatmeal per instructions on the box.
Then, either gently fold in fruits or place on top, followed by the yogurt.  Sprinkle nuts on top.
Looks like a parfait, doesn’t it?  WOW!!!  You just created a masterpiece.

Optional:  Grab your camera.  Snap a photo!!!
And then … after you’re done patting yourself on the back, smilin’, all happy with yourself, eat up … power up, fuel up and be happy!

*  One of my star clients who is doing a fabulous job staying on the healthy and bountiful path shared with me that she just loves almond milk and that it’s a better choice than milk.   Is it healthy or hype?  Here’s a link to the full skinny on the topic.  Healthy/Hype Almond Milk   (Thanks G.P.!  I learn so much from y’all.)

**  How many calories are you saving when you opt for low-fat vs. full fat yogurt and is it worth it for a mere 1/4 cup?  Here’s a link that discusses the difference between the two.  What works for one person, may not work for another.  Knowledge is powerful when putting together your healthy living plan.  Get smart about yogurt.

*** My oh my, almonds are healthy, and you might want to know why!   And just how many almonds constitute a portion size?  You may be quizzed on this later!!! 🙂

Get Smart, Get Healthy!
