You Really SHOULD, You know …You MUST! You, yes, you have to!
Nobody likes to be told what to do. Nobody likes to hear “You SHOULD” …”You MUST” … “You HAVE to.” And YET!!! … We are constantly telling ourselves what to do.
Think about how often the word “should” comes up in your thoughts. “I should do this; I should do that. I must do this; I must do that. I have to do this; I have to do that.” All day long, we are shouting (yes, SHOUTING) orders at ourselves.
Why is SHOULD soooooo irritating?
Perhaps understanding why the ‘should, must, and have to’s’ are so irritating might help.
They imply obligation. You agree that you ‘should,’ but you don’t ‘want to.’ So, if you do what you ‘should do,’ resentment bubbles up, and if you don’t do what you ‘should’ do, you feel guilty, bad, feelings of failure surface. A no win situation, for sure!
With regard to permanent fat removal, would it be fair to say that you may have at one time or another thought that you ‘should’ lose weight? Or that you ‘must’ reduce your size? Or that you ‘have to’ exercise … really you ‘have to!’
And I’m guessing that you are so annoyed with it all that you give up, that you go and eat a donut (or some other form of the devil’s food) to get you through the frustration or just to plain rebel.
Your Inner Rebel.
