Making decisions relies heavily on the part of our brain called the pre-frontal cortex. It is where conscious thought takes place and from which veto power flows.
As we head into this holiday weekend, we need to understand that our pre-frontal cortex has a limited supply of energy. Every time we use our veto power to say no, thank you to the multitude of foods that will inevitably be offered to us, hot off the grill, we are dipping into our limited supply of mental energies.

Yes, my friends, saying ‘no thank you’ takes energy and that explains why we are able to avoid temptation for only so long.
What to do?
1. Make Your Home Your Safe Haven. As I write in my book – All Is Forgiven, Move On – your home needs to be a safe place that supports your goals. In this case, you weight loss goal. Stock it with the right stuff; get rid of the ‘other’ stuff! You seriously do not want to use up your veto powers at home, do you?
2. Bring Fruits and Veggies with You. As you hit the BBQ circuit this weekend, be sure to bring fresh fruits and veggies with you, veggie burgers and whatever else delights your soul and is a part of your healthy living plan.
3. Download this “Guide to No, Thank You” pdf – a Labor Day gift from Our Lady of Weight Loss, that makes saying no, thank you, fun. And fun, always adds energy! Print.pdf
