Our Lady of Weight Loss: Does your weight loss chart look like an EKG?As 2010 rapidly approaches and people begin to make their weight loss resolutions, I’d like to point out that we, as a nation who are already fatter than ever, are on track to be even fatter than ever. Imagine that!
A New Study shows that …
By the time 2018 rolls around, 43 percent of adults in the U.S. are expected to roll with it, straight into obesity. Spending on the obesity epidemic will quadruple to $344 billion! Health care costs associated with obesity include but are not limited to heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

The States that are most in danger of ‘expansion’ are Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Ohio, Oklahoma and South Dakota. Still, the only state projected to have an obesity rate under 30% is Colorado.
Who’s obese …
A person is considered obese if they are at least 30 pounds overweight.
What to do …
The Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease (PFCD) the leading national voice for advancing health reforms that tackle obesity and other chronic health issues, believes that a top priority must be addressing the obesity epidemic through meaningful, evidence-based approaches, including:
Removing barriers and empowering Americans to take control of their health
Educating Americans to see being obese as a serious medical condition that significantly heightens their risk for other health problems
Ensuring that fear about the stigma of obesity does not eclipse the need to combat it
Redesigning our health care system to treat obesity like a preventable medical condition
Engaging employers and communities to get them invested in promoting wellness

Blaming the victim …
Are you afraid that obese people won’t get the help they really need but rather receive the lion’s share of the blame?
What about the food industry? What’s their part in this? They are a for-profit industry who are known to manufacture foods that are laced with sugar, salt and unhealthy fats, which are apparently addictive. Should the government step in with useful regulations?
Will magazines cease to advertise the next big diet on one page with a recipe for a 7-layer chocolate cake on the next page?
Will we, as a country, continue to talk out of both side of our mouths?
How can we join forces?
Please voice your thoughts on the topic.
